How to Avoid A Meltdown in Whatever You are Doing

Since it's tennis week, due mainly to the current US Open, it's not uncommon to see some players suffer from some form of meltdown - which they usually call as a 'tennis meltdown'.  It happens when a normally good and competent player, just seems to completely 'not play' at all at the level he or she is expected to.  It is very disappointing to watch and moreso for the player in question.  It is further aggravated by the fact that some of these meltdowns are shown on TV.  So humiliating for the player!

Meltdowns can also happen in real life!  I also try to avoid experiencing those by doing these basic things:

1.  Practice, practice, practice - Every time I have to speak in public or have to present something to clients, I always keep in mind to practice, practice, practice!  By doing the routine again and again, it becomes second nature to you, so much so that when you are distracted or disturbed by an unruly member of the audience, you do not get rattled since you very well know what to do next!

2.  Cover all bases.  This is not very easy to do since you will really miss one or two things.  However, it is possible to cover at least 90% of the topic you are going to talk about.  By covering most of the bases, you are prepared to answer back any queries on those things, or at least, spontaneously come up with the correct answer.

3. Have self-belief. -  Especially in competition, it is important to know that you are good, and that you are going to win first prize.  Without the belief, it would be difficult to counter the competition, since you yourself are doubting what you can really do!

4.  Know your competition.  It is good to at least do some research on the competition. That way, you know what to expect and how to deal with the assets of your competition.  At least, you have an answer for everything that your competition throws at you!
