Movie Review: 'Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo May Boyfriend'

'Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo May Boyfriend' is a pretty witty title for a movie but don't be fooled by the gayness of the title - this is a heterosexual romcom and the gay storyline is just the frills that decorate the bow.
The movie starts with a bang but slowly drifts into hetero territory somewhere in the middle - and I realized, this is an Anne Curtis vehicle after all - so the story is going to be about her - and not about Paolo Ballesteros.
Anyhow, having Dennis Trillo as the eye candy is well worth the ticket price. There aren't that many laugh-out-loud scenes though and I find some of the lingo and the jokes about gay men, cliched already.
I'm sure today's younger gay men have a fresher take on love and finding out if a guy is beki.
Acting-wise though, Anne Curtis pouts and smiles her way throughout the movie, looking as pretty as ever, while the stylist allows Dennis Trillo to wear so many polo shirts that resemble my wardrobe. Paolo Ballesteros plays the wacky gay best friend but his role slowly fades into the background as the movie reaches its denouement.
I now understand why the director of The Third Party told me they wanted to veer away from cliches and stereotypes. It kinda drags the movie down and the jokes are repeated to gay people in the audience who have known those jokes for years.
Anyway, having another gay-themed movie from a big local studio coming at the heels of another one with A list actors is not bad at all. It looks like the Pinoy masa is already comfortable with local gay-themed movies.
Gawa pa more! Sana something witty and with bite!

A Cool Place for Making Art: Negative Space Cafe in Maginhawa Street

I like the idea behind Negative Space Cafe in Maginhawa Street.  It's a place where not only can you eat and have delicious hot caramel chocolate, you can also spend 3 hours finishing your own painting!

I spent my Saturday night here last night bringing along my nephew and Mama to attend a painting class.  They enjoyed the class a lot while I read a book and ogled all the cute boys walking around!

The place is cool, serves interesting food and has some really delicious drinks!

Saturday Painting Classes with Amos Manlangit

If you want to do something different yet productive on a rainy Saturday night, and have the necessary creative talent for it, I strongly suggest you join the painting classes of my good friend, Amos Manlangit.

Not only is he a bonafide painter with several successful exhibitions, he is also a very astute teacher who is able to adjust his teaching methods to people of different ages.

I have known him more as a Body Jammer for years, but tonight I have seen first hand his ability to give the right advice to budding painters like my nephew Dylan and Mama, who is herself, an amateur painter.

When Mama asked him how to make her sunflowers more three-dimensional, Amos Manlangit taught her how to use different colours so that the sunflowers don't look flat, and instead, look like they're really blooming!

He also taught Dylan how to mix colours and apply different brush strokes to achieve a tempestous seascape.

It's a Saturday night well spent and the place we were in, a resto-cafe-artist space called Negative Space in Maginhawa Street not only provides a well-let, comfortable conditions for painting, you can also have your tea, coffee or hot chocolate while waiting for your loved ones to finish painting.

I am no painter myself, and I have to muster some self-confidence to paint in such a public place, but I trust Amos Manlangit enough to bring out the creative side in me.

The fees are reasonable and if you're hungry, the cafe has delicious croissants, even real dishes to make you full.

Just PM Amos Manlangit for the next schedule because he's such a busy guy! Dylan and Mama have already booked their seats for the next painting class next month!

Relishing the Chinese Food of Wok Mandarin Sky

My friends treated me and my barkada to the delicious Chinese food of Wok Mandarin Sky in their new branch here in #27 Panay Avenue, near Roces Avenue.  It's very near my house as well.

The place has a nice ambience with beautiful furniture and exquisite lighting. The food though is a bit pricey yet was very tasty.

Our deepest condolences to the Thai people on the death of their King

In a sad coincidence, I wore this shirt to work today, only to find out later that the king of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away.

We bought this shirt during one of our Bangkok trips because we noticed that there were so many people in the city wearing yellow.

We learned later on that it was the 80th birthday of their king, and yellow was his colour, so we bought this shirt as a souvenir.

We offer our deepest condolences to all our Thai friends on this day of national mourning.

Congratulations Bob Dylan!

Thanks to the 1995 movie Dangerous Minds, I was introduced to the poetry of Bob Dylan.

In the movie, Michelle Pfeiffer's character, who was a real-life teacher named Louanne Johnson, taught these kids, the beauty of the protest songs of Bob Dylan.

I learned later on that many of my favorite songs were written by Dylan like Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love' and Sonny and Cher's 'All I Want to Do".

I remember using Adele's song as a love letter to one of my ex's since I am not a poet. The simplicity and directness of the lyrics were what I was trying to say.

Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan

"When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I will never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
The winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love"

Movie Review: Past and Present Loves Collide in an Almost Menage-a-trois in 'The Third Party'

This is my first ever v-log and it's a movie review of Star Cinema's current offering, The Third Party, which stars Sam Milby, Angel Locsin and Zanjoe Marudo in an intriguing menage-a-trois!

Watch my movie review and decide for yourself whether to watch The Third Party or not.

Edgar Ramirez: The Hot Shrink in The Girl on the Train

Edgar Ramirez is the third guy in the movie The Girl on the Train. He plays the shrink who sees the character of Haley Bennett.  He does his best to support Haley's character and is wrongfully implicated for her death.

Luke Evans Looks Delish and Dangerous in The Girl on the Train

Luke Evans plays one of the men in The Girl on the Train and he has some shirtless scenes which really heats up the movie, although the movie ends up in a dud.

Still, at 36, this guy has remained hot and delish.

Justin Theroux - Lean and Hot in The Girl on the Train

Justin Theroux just looks hot and ripped and lean in The Girl on the Train.  He has some sex scenes in the movie as he plays a very pivotal role.  He's already 43 years old yet he looks this great!  It's a goal I want to achieve for myself although I am older than him.

Rebecca Ferguson Plays It Blonde and Detached in The Girl on the Train

Rebecca Ferguson plays one of the three important female characters in the movie The Girl on the Train.  She plays the wife of Emily Blunt's character's ex-husband.  At first, she looks lucky for having been the new wife but you eventually learn of the scariness of her situation.  Her character slowly evolves from one of being detached into someone who finds out something very dangerous to her and her baby.

Haley Bennett: Blonde Bombshell in The Girl on the Train

I rarely feature ladies but once in a while, there are new actresses worth featuring here.  One of them is Haley Bennett and she plays a very crucial role in the movie The Girl on the Train.  She plays the role well with enough mystery and sexual tension.  I think her sex scenes are the reason why the movie got an R-16 rating here in the Philippines.
