Movie Review: Misery is 'Biutiful'

I think Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is one of the few directors who could do a movie about such miserable and heavy themes like cancer, child abuse, exploitation of immigrants - and still come out with an uplifting spiritual tale.  Yes, the movie is very depressing so don't watch it when you're not in a good mood, or you're sad - but well, misery loves company, so who knows, you might even feel better after watching this movie, knowing that someone else's life is a hundred times more miserable than yours.

Javier Bardem gives such a masterful performance in this movie!  He's the glue that connects everything and everyone in the movie.  Aside from that, I love the way Inarritu depicts the travails of the other characters in the movie - the exploited Chinese immigrants, the drug addicted wife, the deported African men, the Senegalese woman and her baby - all those people are in the movie and Javier Bardem's character is the one that makes each of their experiences relevant.

If you are an Inarritu fan or a Javier Bardem film - it's a no brainer - you HAVE TO watch this movie!  You don't really leave the movie depressed or sad - in a way, you feel that there is a spiritual connection to everything that we do in this world - and that in the end - we may have to pay for all our past sinful actions.
