After a remarkable awards season that started way back in the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Hungary's Son of Saul caps its run with an Oscar Best Foreign Language Film award - the second for that country.
Like my other film cineaste friends here, we think, although very popular here, Heneral Luna was the wrong film to send to the Oscars since the Oscar voters are not really familiar with the history of individual nations.
They are more interested in original compelling stories with a unique local flavour - something that a Himala or a Kubrador or On the Job can represent very well.
As I said before, I really feel that one of our current filmmakers have that ability and can bring us our first nomination in that category and put the Philippines in the Oscar map.
We are, after all, one of the most prolific film-making countries in the world!
