One of the athletes that I particularly liked in the London Olympics was Jordyn Wieber. Touted to win the individual all around gold medal in women's gymnastics, she lost out her spot to Aly Raisman, who, along with Gabby Douglas, finished ahead of her in the prelims - and since only two representatives are allowed per country, Jordyn lost her slot - and her chance to win that coveted all-around gold medal!
Even with that disappointment, she went back to the stadium the next day and did her part in making sure that the US women's gymnastics team also win the team all-around gold! To be able to just shrug off that major disappointment and move on in such short a time shows a lot of her emotional maturity in coping with a perceived failure.
