Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games

Just like Jennifer Lawrence, I am very happy too that Disney actor Josh Hutcherson snagged the important role of Peeta in The Hunger Games.  It is a thankless role since he merely serves as love interest for Katniss for the world to see but we still have to find out how his character fares as the movie installment gets to its second film.  As for Josh, he pins down the role of Peeta perfectly and sometimes you don't know if he really means what he's saying or he's just manipulating Katniss to survive in the heartless game.

Jennifer Lawrence Deserves All the Attention

To Oscar watchers like me, Jennifer Lawrence is not a newbie actress anymore.  Since her nomination for Best Actress in Winter's Bone a few years back, we knew that only time will tell when she's really going to break out of the indie movie circuit - and she does it with a big bang!  I think she came to the right place at the right time, since her groundbreaking role in The Hunger Games fits her acting style and beauty and build perfectly.  She's like the contemporary Sigourney Weaver - beautiful but not distractingly so.  And the best thing is - she can act well - which makes The Hunger Games interesting viewing!

Great to See Wes Bentley in The Hunger Games

It's too bad that Wes Bentley wasn't able to capitalize so much on the success of American Beauty more than a decade ago because he kinda disappeared for a while after that.  So, it was great to see him again do a high profile role, this time, as Seneca Crane, in The Hunger Games.  It would really be a waste of his acting talent if he didn't do too many movies.  I hope I get to see him in more!

Sexy Rocker Lenny Kravitz in The Hunger Games

It was kind of a 90s reunion in The Hunger Games because sexy rocker Lenny Kravitz, who had a host of hits in that decade, was also, much to my surprise, in the cast - in a role that also surprised me - a stylist!  It was really pretty cool too since he played the role with so much machismo you rarely (or never find) in most stylists, lol!  Anyway, I love that scene when he says goodbye to Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence).  Simple, dignified, sad....I do hope to see him in more movies - and the directors should let him be shirtless - he used to undress a lot before the cameras during his heydays - and he still looks fine now!

Woody Harrelson Does An Interesting Turn in 'The Hunger Games'

Among the interesting A-list actors in 'The Hunger Games' is Woody Harrelson who plays the role of Haymitch, the guy who trains and preps up Peeta and Katniss.  Woody does an interesting turn here and sports a different hairdo - at least, not something that we are used to.  He also attacks his role by being alternatingly obnoxious and supportive - cleverly hiding how much he really cares for his wards.

Elizabeth Banks: Great as Effie Trinket

It's great to see a character like Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games.  I have not seen a character with such a colorful personality personifying it literally in how she wore her clothes.  I admit, when I first saw the trailer for the movie - and showed a dolled up Elizabeth Banks - I knew the movie was making a statement about the leadership of the government of Panem.  Soon of course, as you see the movie, you get to discover the excesses of that place which is personified by the over-the-top clothes and really colorful palette of the Effie Trinket character. I love it!  This early, The Hunger Games is already a frontrunner in my Best Costume Design Fabe-lous Film Awards later this year!  Let's see how other movies fare!
