Discovering Seth McFarlane

It's a bit weird that I don't know much about Seth McFarlane before he hosted this year's Oscar awards.  Yun pala, he is the guy behind The Family Guy and was the teddy bear in his movie Ted!  I have the DVD for that movie but I am still going to watch it.  I think Seth did a good job in this year's Oscars although I think Amy and Tina did a better job in the Globes, but well, the Globes I'm sure, gave them more leverage than the Oscar producers did for Seth, knowing that more people watch the Oscars than the Globes.  And well, I'm not really into frat guy humor....

Anyway, it's a pity he doesn't want to host it again.  It is a very daunting job!  Well, let's see how the ladies do next year!

The 2013 Oscars My Most Favorite TV Show This Week

This year's Oscar awards is my most favorite TV show this week. Although not as entertaining as the Golden Globes, there was enough surprises that night that merit it as the most entertaining Oscars for the past five years, at least in my book.  Seth McFarlane is not only funny, I think he's hot!

Strangely Ambivalent to 2013 Oscars Best Picture Noms

Normally, in any given year, I would be passionate in supporting one, two, sometimes, three movies during the annual Oscar derby.  It was even more exciting when they expanded their nominations to ten slots in the Best Picture category - since it allowed more 'normal' movies to be nominated.  

However, I have been strangely ambivalent to the roster of Best Picture nominees this year, although undeniably most of them were box-office successes and were technically competent.  Well, I haven't seen all of them yet, but with the ones, I've seen, I haven't really been moved that much.

Well, I usually leave the films I'm least interested in to watch last, and I usually watch what I think interests me more, first.  But this year, all the ones I thought I'd be interested in, just, well, bored me.  Les Miz, Argo, Silver Linings - all disappointments.  I still have to see Lincoln, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty.  I liked Life of Pi but it didn't stir me enough.

Oh well, I hope at least one of the five Best Picture nominees I haven't seen yet will turn out to be an emotional gem for me.  Otherwise, 2013 will go down as the year, I didn't feel passionate about any of the Oscar Best Picture noms.

‘Bwakaw’ gears up for Oscars

I haven't seen the movie yet (and I'd love to) but Christopher Plummer just won an Oscar for a VERY SIMILAR role last year - so I hope the Oscar voters would not shelve this as something similar to 'Beginners'.  I just hope it has enough 'uniqueness' to make it distinguishable from that movie - which I'm sure a LOT of Oscar voters saw - kasi nga Plummer won the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Also the dog's presence is similar to The Artist, which won Best Picture and a host of other Oscars last year.

Anyhow, good luck to Eddie Garcia!  He has had an illustrious career and I'm sure he'll sweep many of the acting awards locally next year - not to mention all the awards he will get from gay film festivals abroad!  Mabuhay ka Manong Eddie!
