The Martyrdom of Saints Chrysanthus and Daria

Yesterday being All Saints Day, it was serendipitious that I was able to watch a documentary in Nat Geo called Science of Saints where they featured the use of today's scientific knowledge - carbon dating, DNA testing, etc - to verify the authenticity of some of the legends of the Catholic religion.

The documentary was very interesting because the Catholic Church wanted to find out the veracity of the legend that Saints Chrysanthus and Daria were indeed buried in the church they were rumoured to be buried - and that the relics in the church contained their saintly bones.

Nat Geo is very good in building up the suspense to these stories and presenting them in a very entertaining way - it was much like watching a real suspense story - but in this case - it happened for real.

Because of watching this, I became more appreciative of the martyrdom of Saints Chrysanthus and Daria - much like the martyrdom of our newly canonized saint, San Pedro Calungsod.  Their reverence and faith - shone through even though it happened a thousand years ago.  It must have not been very easy to be a Christian during those times.  It would be good to pray to these saints when we are faltering in our faith.
