The UP Oblation: A 60s Picture

The UP Oblation is like the Eiffel Tower - it's the unmistakeable landmark in most UP campuses and one of it can be found in the UP Diliman campus.  I really thought it was a huge thing when I was in high school but when I arrived in Diliman, I was surprised to see that it was, well, not so big.  I don't even remember having a picture with it!  Weird!
Anyway, here's a picture of the oblation circa 1960s, this one was from my Mom's stash!

Revisiting the UP Diliman Campus

I've only been inside the University Building once, or twice, I think, when I had to have something signed by some AVP whose name I forget already.  This picture though has a stunning of view of the UP Diliman campus way back in the 60s - and this was taken from the University Building, most likely from that lobby there.  Too bad I rarely hung out in this area or building - well, no one really does since it's an administrative building and it doesn't have classrooms.

Of course, now, the UP Diliman campus has more trees and I don't think you'd be able to see the same view as clearly now as then, because, as I said, there are now many tall and old trees blocking the view - which is not really that bad.

Revisiting the Carillion in UP Diliman circa 1960s

I don't think it's possible to take a similar picture of the Carillion anymore these days.  Kasi this one has the University Building at the background but nowadays, andun na ang UP Film Center, di ba?  Anyway, I'd have to go back to UP just to check if I can get a similar picture.

I have never been on top of the Carillion but a friend of mine told me he has been there - and not for educational purposes.  I don't think it was even ever used when I was there!  Ano bang purpose nito, bell tower or something?

In Mama's picture, it's still called University Tower, but during my time, Carillion na ang tawag sa kanya.

Revisiting the UP Diliman Main Library circa 1960s

To all those who went to UP Diliman: Correct me if I am wrong, but this picture was taken from the Sunken Garden, tama ba? Eto yung likod ng library di ba? This was how it looked way back in the 60s! Tawag nila Mama sa AS was Liberal Arts but she also calls it AS once in a while. Of course, we'd know immediately pag di ka tag-Diliman if you call it Palma Hall!!

Revisiting a Virginal UP Diliman

To all those who went to UP Diliman: I found some old pictures of the Diliman campus, back in the day (circa 1959 ata eto). I think these are Mama's stash. She told me that she spent her freshman year in Padre Faura, and then they all transferred to the Diliman campus the year after. Mama took Fine Arts and she said her classrooms were in the Main Library, and when I was a freshman, ang College of FA, andun pa rin!! Imagine that!!

I don't know why she has a picture of the College of Law because no one in our family or our extended family ever took Law!! If you jog around the Sunken Garden today, it is eerily the same structure - the National Engineering Center is just beside it now, on the left side, and that's where I spent most of my 4th and 5th year, very rare na sa Melchor Hall. I rarely made a shortcut through the Law school, I could have, but I was not worthy haha!!
