That Thing Called Tadhana Looks Inspired by Before Sunset Trilogy Template
I don't know if the young people beside me in the theater when I was watching That Thing Called Tadhana knows about the Before Sunset movie trilogy and I don't know if Antoinette Jadaone was even born before the first one came out - but one look at her latest movie hit, I have this feeling that she was inspired by the set-up of those movies. Anyway, I haven't read any of her interviews (anyway, dito sa Pinas, they don't even interview directors and scriptwriters - puro yung artista and who they're dating now - kainis!!)
In the Before Sunset trilogy kasi - the set-up is - boy meets girl and then they talk and walk and talk some more and go places and talk some more and eat and laugh and talk some more - and that's all there is to the movie. No action. No outward events interfere with their talks. It's such an intimate set-up that the viewer feels like a voyeur, listening to the intimate conversation of two young people.
Here in Tadhana - they start in Rome and then Baguio then Sagada then Manila. Sa trilogy - they came from Budapest then stop in Vienna - and in the second movie - they meet again in Paris - and so on.
This movie actually has the potential of doing just that- complete a trilogy - although in Tadhana's case - they start na at the age of 28 - which in the Before Sunset trilogy - would be the second installment.
Anyway, if the stars would align and Jadaone can still come up with a beautiful script, it would be interesting to find out in 2024, the events that would happen in the lives of Anthony and Mace as they reach their mid-30's! It would be interesting to see JM and Angelica essay the roles again! I'm sure there'd be a producer somewhere interested to see how their lives unfold.
Parang Boyhood lang din, every 12 years ang filming!

JM de Guzman and His Family
I know this is a bit of a personal picture but it's great to find out that JM de Guzman has a strong support system behind him knowing all the rumors about his supposed fall from grace. He looks fine now and I really hope his star continues to shine. I believe he really has the talent for acting, among other things.

JM de Guzman, Alden Richards, Mikael Daez, Joseph Marco, Markki Stroem Heat Up Cosmo Bachelors Bash
This lucky girl was just about an arms length from me when JM de Guzman chose her! I know his body is not as buffed as the rest along with Markki Stroem but they look great to me! When Markki took off his towel to reveal his briefs, I was pretty astounded by what I saw, maybe because his crown jewels just zoomed straight to my line of vision. The girls beside me also loved Mikael Daez. He does look much better in person! I'm now his fan as well haha And don't let Alden Richards smile at you, especially when he has no shirt on - you will not catch his shirt!!

JM De Guzman: Boy Next Door at the Gawad Urian 2012
Siguro
kung nagkaanak ako, ganito siya kagwapo. 'Chos lang talaga! Anyway,
while I was plodding through Amnesia Girl I didn't notice John Lloyd
much and whoever the girl was in that film (tingnan mo, pag girl, no
register - interchangeable kasi mga mukha nila!) The guy who I actually
noticed was this guy in the picture. Everytime he was on the screen, I
was just freaking mesmerized. After we got
out of the theater, I asked my friend who he was and he said, oh,
that's JM de Guzman. My friend didn't like him kasi he like mestizos.
Pero me, I love moreno chinito guys. Definite yum yums for me!! Of
course, a year later, JM already had a TV show in ABS and lots of
freakin' girls shouting for him when we were in Trinoma.
The
only reason also that I had this picture was because JM was the guy
beside me in the cubicle in the men's room. He was sneaking out after
the awards (they all freakin' sneak out!!) but since katabi ko siya, wiz
siya ligtas. Actually, kung may cubicles lang yung toilet ng AFP
Theatre, malamang dun na siya pupuluting hubot' hubad, 'chos!!

Movie Review: Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank

It's ironic that this film won the Cinemalaya Best Picture honors since it pokes fun at indie filmmakers who romanticize local poverty. I don't know if the filmmakers here were trying to poke fun at a particular local indie filmmaker but their point comes across very clearly, since it's done in jest and with so much humor.
Only four actors talk in the whole movie and it's great that the director cast two of my favorite local boys - JM de Guzman and Kean Cipriano! Well, the whole movie hinges on several dialogues done by Eugene Domingo which literally brings the whole house down! In three or four particular scenes, Eugene's delivery of her lines is so good, the whole theater bursts out in laughter loud enough to drown out the dialogue! She's really funny here - and she plays herself (well, maybe just an alter ego of herself).
If you want to relax and just have a laugh, this movie may not be it since half of it pokes fun at poverty cinema porn, but Eugene will reward you loads for your patience. She doesn't come out till about 20 minutes into the movie. Don't come late though or you'll miss the whole point.
