Corruption permeates even the great countries like Russia - and in this backdrop, young blogger, Alexei Navalny is catapulted in the spotlight, as he openly accuses the elected Russian president, Vladimir Putin of being corrupt - and his government, as such. Now with the results of the elections under a huge question mark, many Russians are trooping to the streets to demand answers from Putin, especially that the president has jailed Navalny. In history, the messenger is muzzled to hide the truth - the most famous are Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi.
What Navalny has done is significant since he has mobilized a generation of young Russians through social media - in much the same way it has toppled the governments in Tunisia and Egypt - earlier this year. I still don't know how all this pans out but what I sincerely hope for is that everything is resolved peacefully. Unfortunately, history teaches us that changing governments rarely is.
