Surprise Oscar for Mark Rylance

I kinda knew Sylvester Stallone wouldn't get the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor award tonight because the Academy wouldn't award you for doing a role doing almost the same thing from your previous nomination.
He was the boxer in Rocky and in Creed, he was the boxing trainer - not really a stretch of acting capability.
I was actually rooting for the two Marks - Mark Ruffalo and Mark Rylance. The latter plays the more sinister role though and if you've seen Bridge of Spies, you'd know how devious his character is in that movie.

Son of Saul: Second Best Foreign Language Film Winner from Hungary

After a remarkable awards season that started way back in the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Hungary's Son of Saul caps its run with an Oscar Best Foreign Language Film award - the second for that country.
Like my other film cineaste friends here, we think, although very popular here, Heneral Luna was the wrong film to send to the Oscars since the Oscar voters are not really familiar with the history of individual nations.
They are more interested in original compelling stories with a unique local flavour - something that a Himala or a Kubrador or On the Job can represent very well.
As I said before, I really feel that one of our current filmmakers have that ability and can bring us our first nomination in that category and put the Philippines in the Oscar map.
We are, after all, one of the most prolific film-making countries in the world!

We Need A New Pin-Up Boy!

Now that Leo, who was the pin-up boy of our generation who can actually act - has finally won an Oscar, we now have to find the next pin up boy of this present generation - who can actually act.....any suggestions?

Oscar Quality Theme Song for a James Bond Movie

Thanks Sam Smith for the heads up to the LGBT community! I'm glad that it was an openly gay couple who won the Best Original Song award for a James Bond movie.

If I'm not mistaken, James Napier was also his songwriting partner for Stay With Me - when they swept the Grammys last year.
Bongga ang mga lola mo ha - it's rare for any musician to win Grammys and an Oscar - back-to-back!

Third Straight Year for Mexico

This is the third straight year that the Oscar Best Director award has gone to a Mexican! So I don't understand why the black community in Hollywood is complaining about not being recognized enough.
If you just do the best work, I believe the film community will reward you, regardless of the colour of your skin......
