Jessica Biel has such supermodel good looks it was pretty surprising to see that she can actually act! The Tall Man is packaged as a horror movie, but two-thirds into the movie, it becomes a thriller - and eventually just slows down, especially after taking us all for a wild ride of really big twists and turns - which frankly, really caught me offguard too!
This is not your normal horror movie since there is a social commentary behind it but it has all the elements of a good horror movie - heavily forested area, a sinister tall figure whose face you don't see till the end of the movie, an atmosphere of desperation since many of the children disappearing are never found - this movie you got to watch - even if only on DVD!
There's a long history of glamorous Hollywood actresses doing the dowdy road for their roles. When I was younger, my most favorite actress then, Michelle Pfeiffer, who is just exquisitely beautiful, would take dowdy roles in movies like Frankie and Johnny, which would totally hide how beautiful she was. Charlize Theron went the butch route and won herself an Oscar in Monster.
Now, Jessica Biel, who looks supermodel hot in these photos chose to look dowdy in this movie starring her, The Tall Man and well, her looking unmade up is not really the surprise here, it's that, she can actually act! This movie is packaged as a horror movie but it does have some action sequences and Jessica is good in all of them. Even when she has to look stoic and sad and dignified (because she has to hide a secret) - she does all of it with aplomb! An actress with supermodel looks who can act! Cool!!
In the movie, The Tall Man, Canadian actress Jodelle Ferland's wild mane of hair hides her beautiful face - and since she plays a severely abused girl in the movie - well severely because she chooses NOT to speak, but just write everything, you'd think her character was cuckoo. Well, it's not, by the way, and in a scene where Jessica Biel parts her hair to show that beautiful face of hers, you'd know this character has some intelligence to her - which she's just hiding because of the world of abuse she's surrounded with.
When I was watching the horror movie, The Tall Man,
one of the actors who caught my attention was Teach Grant. He played a
mean guy who impregnates the daughter of this woman who lives with him -
and well, he's abusive! Anyway, although he plays a mean character, I
can't help but notice the guy's sex appeal under all those leather - jacket,
pants - it must really be cold where he lives - looks like the Pacific
Northwest to me. Hope to see him in more Hollywood movies though!
