Richard Linklater finally gets a directing award from a high profile organization, winning the Golden Globes Best Director award today! I have seen Boyhood and it's a good movie but my more favorite movies that Linklater had done was the 'Before' trilogy!
I actually feel that his win for Boyhood is also a win for all those three movies - Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight.
I was quite excited for his win even though it was for a different movie.
My only complaint with Before Midnight is that Ethan Hawke didn't take his shirt or boxers off - vis-a-vis Julie Delpy who had a 10-minute topless scene! Not fair at all! I don't think we'd want to see Ethan shirtless and nude when he turns 50, do we? Because this movie is made every 9 years! Otherwise, this movie is a gem! I love the banter in the dining scene the most. I think the hotel scene sin the end eemed a tad too long but I guess that's how couples fight.
Watching the second installment to refresh my memory in time for the 7:25 screening of Before Midnight tonight. Viewed this two years before I met Alberto and it's funny how I unconsciously patterned the "Let's meet again after six months thing", and having rendezvous every 6 months in London or Hong Kong hence creating our own version of this movie's template. It involved a lot of flying and adjusting to time zones and acting like new lovers meeting again for the first time, every time! I'm just happy that I went through a romantic phase in my life. The 'Pay Your Mortgages' and 'Send the Kids to School' phase where I am now is just humdrum and routinary.......
