The Golden Globe Awards signals the start of the 2013 awards season. This was an astounding Golden Globes award show with so many plus points going for it - Amy Poehler and Tina Fey as hosts were just marvelous, funny and witty - bravo girls!! Jodie Foster's speech was heartfelt and frank and open - plus all the surprise wins for HBO's Girls and Ben Affleck's Argo.

I was so happy to hear Ben Affleck's name being called out as Best Director in this year's Golden Globes! I know the Oscar's snubbed him so this award is just as impressive especially that he has consistently been directing really good movies now. I haven't seen Argo yet, but I'll certainly pop it into my DVD player later tonight. I just hope it's a clear copy!
In a very brave, sharp manner, Jodie Foster finally addressed tonight at this year's Golden Globe awards, the gay issue, while asking people to respect her privacy! It was in one way, surreal to watch, but also very touching.
I was really lucky to be a young adult already when Jodie Foster was at her acting peak! She was just magnificent in both The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs not to forget Nell, Sommersby and Maverick and so on and so forth....
Was I lucky to be able to see several episodes of Girls this season? I just love it - even though I'm an older gay man! The series just had heart and spunk and well - reality written all over it! And we have to thank Lena Dunham, tonight's Golden Globe winner for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for giving us this very smart series! I really can't wait to see the second season of this one!
Wow! This is the second straight year that Claire Danes won this award! She certainly has a lock on it! I guess I may really have to watch this TV series now especially that this series has been winning awards left and right, from different award giving bodies.
I have a lot of respect for Claire Danes, although she dissed my country, for being dirty and full of cockroaches. Anyway, it's true but so are other countries - like her own - so fair is fair Ms. Danes. I digress.
I saw her in that TV movie Temple Grandin and she was amazing!! She just bravely took the role and made us appreciate what the real Temple Grandin gave the world!
Like Jennifer Lawrence, I knew it was only a matter of time before Anne Hathaway would win a Golden Globe. She has been playing solid roles in movies for years now - especially in Rachel Getting Married where she was just plain b****-y and mean. So finally, this year, in Les Miserables, she starts her 2013 award seasons with a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress Award in a performance which everyone is just talking about! The Oscar award for this category should follow suit!
I knew it was only a matter of time before Jennifer Lawrence wins a Golden Globe and finally tonight, she snags one as Best Actress in the comedy Silver Linings Playbook. At least it would show her younger fans from the Hunger Games series that she too can really act! Actually, of all the films nominated for this year's Best Picture Oscar, her movie is the one I am really looking forward to watching! Not only to see Jennifer, but to see sexy Brad!! Yum yum!!
I haven't seen Kevin Costner in ages! In the 90s this guy ruled the movie box-office with hit movie after hit movie - and then he disappeared. So it was a bit of a treat to see him tonight at the Golden Globes and I actually love his speech - he was really reminiscing and I think he even forgot to mention the TV movie which he won for haha! That's Hatfields and McCoy......
Sienna Miler snagged a Golden Globe nomination this year for her role as Tippi Hedren in the TV movie The Girl. She really looked radiant tonight when her name was announced as a nominee for Best Actress in a TV movie. And she looks great in her floral gown - very feminine!
I may now really have to watch Homeland as it continues to reap honors, first at the Emmy's, late last year, and now at the Golden Globes. Problem is, I still have a stack of TV DVDs to get through and I think the series is too political for me - maybe a tad too serious! Oh well, Damian Lewis won both the Emmy and the Golden Globe for this category so he must be really good in it. Homeland too homes in on the Best TV Drama award. Maybe I should watch the first season first and let's take it from there.
I was surprised to learn that this was Julianne Moore's very first Golden Globe award after all those Best Actress nominations she had for such memorable films like Boogie Nights and Far From Heaven! I'm not sure if our local HBO has screened Game Change already here in Manila but it's not quite the movie I'd like to see since it's a political one and it's about a person (Sarah Palin) who Filipinos are not really familiar with. However, maybe the only reason I'll watch it is to see Julianne Moore's Emmy-winning, and now, Golden Globe winning performance there!
What would Downton Abbey be without Dame Maggie Smith? Her b****-y lines are always something I look forward to seeing when I watch Downton Abbey since she does it so subtly and with firm conviction - and leaving the recipient dumbfounded and shell shocked- and the audience in stitches!! I guess the members of the HFPA loves her character so much, she gets another award for the second season of this acclaimed British miniseries. There have been rumours though that she's leaving the show - and if it does happen, the miniseries will certainly lose a colorful character!
The tandem of Christoph Waltz and Quentin Tarantino have scored again with a win for Christoph as the Golden Globes Best Supporting Actor, this time, for Quentin's Django Unchained.
A few years ago, Christoph scored an Oscar Best Supporting Actor for another Quentin movie Inglorious Bastards. I saw that movie and Christoph was superb in it, speaking in English, French and German - and changing his demeanor whenever and whatever situated he had to deal with.
I'm not sure if Django Unchained will be released here in Manila but I'm sure it's going to be another interesting movie since Quentin has such a deliberate style of telling stories. They say Christoph plays a German bounty hunter here. Looking forward to seeing him there!
