Movie Review: 'Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo May Boyfriend'

'Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo May Boyfriend' is a pretty witty title for a movie but don't be fooled by the gayness of the title - this is a heterosexual romcom and the gay storyline is just the frills that decorate the bow.
The movie starts with a bang but slowly drifts into hetero territory somewhere in the middle - and I realized, this is an Anne Curtis vehicle after all - so the story is going to be about her - and not about Paolo Ballesteros.
Anyhow, having Dennis Trillo as the eye candy is well worth the ticket price. There aren't that many laugh-out-loud scenes though and I find some of the lingo and the jokes about gay men, cliched already.
I'm sure today's younger gay men have a fresher take on love and finding out if a guy is beki.
Acting-wise though, Anne Curtis pouts and smiles her way throughout the movie, looking as pretty as ever, while the stylist allows Dennis Trillo to wear so many polo shirts that resemble my wardrobe. Paolo Ballesteros plays the wacky gay best friend but his role slowly fades into the background as the movie reaches its denouement.
I now understand why the director of The Third Party told me they wanted to veer away from cliches and stereotypes. It kinda drags the movie down and the jokes are repeated to gay people in the audience who have known those jokes for years.
Anyway, having another gay-themed movie from a big local studio coming at the heels of another one with A list actors is not bad at all. It looks like the Pinoy masa is already comfortable with local gay-themed movies.
Gawa pa more! Sana something witty and with bite!

Dennis Trillo in Ang Katiwala

I'm watching Ang Katiwala on Fox Filipino with Dennis Trillo as the katiwala - and it's this slow, plodding movie that's supposed to be a horror story.
Such a waste really.
If I were the producer of this movie - with Dennis Trillo as the only main character portraying a katiwala - he'll be shirtless most of the time - in various stages of undress in his scenes - and the movie will be a psychological horror thriller bordering on soft porn.
If I have to shell out half a million pesos for an indie movie like this, might as well get my money's worth! Why waste the talents of a hot actor who can also act!

The Husband's Lover: Promising But too Melodramatic

I haven't purposely seen a local teleserye in ages so you could say the premiere of The Husband's Lover was some sort of a big event in my life.  It's pretty rare that local TV features gay characters outside the norm which is a screaming faggot, normally a BFF of a beautiful yet clueless female protagonist.  However, with Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo at the helm of this show, this show broke away from the gay stereotype.  This time though, it's the closeted ones who get centerstage, and God knows there's so many of them bimbims out there!

It's a good thing they cast Carla Abellana as the third wheel here since among the local actresses right now, she's the one that I like most!  I think she did a great job in My Neighbor's Wife.  I think I'd be bored to my wits if they cast Lovi Poe here or Bianca King.  I also think their choices for the guys were spot on!

Well, since I am not used to watching local teleserye's, I found some parts of the initial episode too melodramatic!  Kelangan ba talagang may sisigaw and iiyak every 5 minutes?  It's a good thing thought that the Lally's Mommy angle will most likely disappear in the next few episodes as the focus now is on Tom and Dennis' characters.  I really can't stand too much iyakan.  Masyadong OA.  Do real people behave that way?

Well, I will still try to catch the episode tomorrow, or at least this week.
