My Comfort Foods: Solaire's Beef Rendang

Food is one of the ways I reward myself and nowadays, a plate of delicious beef rendang is my culinary moment in heaven! Yun lang, I have to go all the way to Solaire to eat it!

It used to be that Cibo's Spaghetti a la Romana would do the trick - and it still does! Good that there's a Cibo in Robinson's Magnolia.

Rack's boneless pork 'something' is another food I treat myself when I want to feel happy - and it's good that Robinsons Manila has a Rack's resto, where I usually drop by after school.

Finally, the fourth dish I could think of that would make me happy is Alba's paella negra! I haven't had it in years but I think I have to visit the place again. One whole paella negra just for myself - yum yum!

Eating Beef Rendang in Hong Kong

You were very perceptive enough to notice that I wanted Malaysian food. Sayang, I discovered there is beef rendang pala in Lan Kwai Fong!

Delicious Beef Rendang in Banana Leaf!

Mama and I finally visited Century Mall in Makati last Sunday. It's a small compact mall pala with high end stores. Exactly the mall I like because everything is so expensive, I won't have to worry about spending on anything.

Anyway, we decided to have lunch at Banana Leaf because I saw they had beef rendang in their menu.

It was delicious! Not exactly genuine because they had to adapt to the less than spicy demands of the Pinoy taste buds. It was also a bit sweet. Themeat was tender and the coconut and the coconut milk on it definitely gave it its own identity, totally different from the beef rendang of Solaire, which is the more genuine tasting one!

They also had these delicious spring rolls which we surprisingly, quickly consumed, considering I don't really like vegetable rolls! I've been snubbing Banana Leaf for years! They serve pala Malay food and have adapted it to the singular taste buds of the Pinoys.

Not Quite the Beef Rendang I Wanted

I was excited to learn that a resto in Fisher Mall, Truly Asia, was serving beef rendang. I thought I wouldn't have to go to Solaire to get my fix! Unfortunately, it's not as spicy and it's a drier version of the more tasty and curry-like version in Solaire.

This trip to Kuala Lumpur was definitely one for the taste buds.  For the first time in many trips, I shunned the familiar fast foods and opted to dive in and sample the local food fare!  So being at the Suria KLCC, I took Mama to Khui, this small restaurant tucked in the corner of this big mall, and a place where many locals queue up to sample the desserts and the local food.  The only thing that looked familiar to me was the nasi lemak chicken and the beef rendang, and I ordered those.  With softdrinks, our lunch just boiled down to RM12 or US$3.91 (PhP162.39) each.  The food though is spicy in Pinoy standards so prepare to be left with a stinging spicy taste on your tongue - a feeling I was going to have everytime I finished eating during my trip here.  After lunch, we had some pictures taken in the restaurant.
