It was quite surprising to discover two interesting movies while I was channel surfing this week. I haven't cried watching a movie for sometime now, but I did just that in Listen To Your Heart, a movie which I saw on Velvet this week. It's my favorite TV show/movie of the week.
Here are my favorite shows on TV this week ending October 19, 2012 -
#1 Velvet - Listen to your Heart - this movie about a deaf woman finding love made me cry this week even if it was melodrama at its purest. Did I say that someone dies of cancer here too?
#2 HBO - Take Me Home Tonight- Watching this movie was a lot of fun! I loved the music and Topher Grace and Anna Faris were just hilarious in it!
#3 HBO -Life's too Short -I love this episode where Sting has Warrick Davis dragged out of his charity dinner. Hilarious!
#4 ETC - Glee Season 4 - I think this is one of the first episodes of this new season. I forgot how enjoyable this show arranges all these contemporary songs! They sang It's Time by Imagine Dragons.
#5 Jack - Grimm - Grimm can sometimes be scary and sometimes absurd but their episode this week completely threw me off! The child was the killer and not the parents!
#6 CNN - Talk Asia - This week, this talk show talks to Japanese mountain climber Tamae Watanabe who climbed Mt. Everest at the young age of 73! And she's such a jolly person!
#7 Crime Investigation - American Greed - I rarely get to watch this show - di ko matiming! However, I saw this episode where they featured this high-powered New York lawyer who stole money from his clients using fake hedge funds!
#8 CNN - Inside Africa - I love this show! This week, they were in the beautiful island of Zanzibar.
#9 Bio - Celebrity Ghost Stories - I think I've watched already all the incarnations of this show except this one, which talked to the actress who was in the updated version of the Amityville Horror. Really gave me goosebumps!
#10 National Geographic - Scam City- This week, the show went to Delhi in India and it showed an interesting side to Delhi - that you can fake your own death and get a death certificate and claim your insurance payment - a get rich quick scheme!
Well, it's back to my normal TV schedule this week with crime stories topping most of my top 10. Here are my favorite shows for the week ending September 14, 2012 -
#1 Crime Investigation Channel - Crime Investigation Asia - Miss Malaysia
This story was about the teacher who was murdered by her lover, a former Miss Malaysia.
#2 Crime Investigation Channel - Crime Investigation Asia - Mas Selamat
This story was about the terrorist Mas Selamat who escaped jail in Singapore.
#3 Diva Channel - Elizabeth: The Golden Age
The second Elizabeth movie starring Cate Blanchett. Love the costumes!
#4 Crime Investigation Channel - Justice Files - child molesters
This episode focused on the law that made it mandatory for policemen to inform the public about child molesters in their midst.
#5 Crime Investigation Channel - Medical Detectives - Sands of Crime
#6 Crime Investigation Channel - Medical Detectives - As Fault
#7 - Biography Channel - My Ghost Story Asia - dormitory
This episode was about this male spirit who lived in a girls dormitory.
#8 Biography Channel - My Ghost Story Asia - Miss Malaysia uncle
#9 Biography Channel - My Ghost Story - park ghost maid
This episode was about some friends who went to a park and one of their friends saw a ghost behind their car.
#10 HBO - Life's Too Short - Warrick meets Helena Bonham Carter!
It's not always that an A-list Hollywood actress (or actor for that matter) would perform on a TV sitcom, so Life's Too Short has been quite lucky to have had Johnny Depp last week, and this week, they had Helena Bonham Carter who played a more pompous version of herself! In today's episode though, I like the bit about the BBC interview where they totally cut out Warwick. Problem is, I don't know how long I can take any more insults heaped on Warwick though. This series is supposed to be about him, isn't it?
The comedy of Life's Too Short is very in your face, very frank, very direct, which might not quite attract a huge audience here in the Philippines. However, I find the idea of a dwarf being followed around like a reality TV show very intriguing, and the thin line between reality and fiction is intriguing as well.
I like the little man playing Warwick Davis. Sometimes his character becomes obnoxious, sometimes endearing. I also love his ditzy secretary especially in the scene tonight where she tries to give him ideas during their brainstorming. Her ideas were just hilarious - and she says her lines in a very deadpan manner - like she really means them - hahaha!
The best thing though came when Johnny Depp made a cameo as himself and he had to hire Warwick as some sort of dwarf source. And the confrontation scene he had with Ricky Gervais - really hilarious.
